Our first Christmas married I want you all to know that you are loved and appreciated. She said we couldn't watch it because the lady who produced the doc was formerly a professor at BYU but has since left the church, so she wouldn't have anything good to say. Without going into too much personal detail, I received a very real, strong prompting that I should marry this girl. I think love and caring can be more important. I met this girl a while ago and we really hit it off. The doctrinal and afterlife issues around a non-temple marriage are an entirely different topic, and one that I am personally much more at peace with than my questions about how one might make an interfaith marriage work in this life. Like many single members of the church, I have often wondered whether I would be willing to marry someone outside of the temple, and over the past few years I have come to believe that I would be willing to do so. I cooked every meal…… My husband went to work…being a god to his patients.
Harmony will prevail if the husband appreciates the value of church service and attendance. As ex-mormons, can anyone here offer some insight about this girl, her religion, and what exactly I may be getting myself into if I continue dating her. Good luck and best wishes as you head back out into the dating pool. And, as I was writing the reply, above, those thoughts went through my head. No walking your daughter down the aisle, no giving your daughter away at the alter, nothing but you standing outside the temple waiting till it's over. And for mormons, the goal is always a temple marriage and a marriage for the eternities. I get it; I just don't buy into it. Also, as Joanna points out, men and women already inhabit a separate culture.
