The Time Guardian
A bout a year ago I approached Carrie Fisher to write a column for the Guardian. But somehow — all too easily — I found myself with an invitation to her house in Beverly Hills. And what a house it is. Huge neon arrows and signs hang from trees in the driveway. A giant moose head with a fez hung above the fireplace; snow globes depicting macabre murder scenes decorated the shelves and, outside in the garden, next to a life-size Leia stepping out of a British telephone box, was the back end of a lion attached to the wall, its raised tail revealing giant cat balls. Reynolds had suffered two strokes; she and her daughter saw each other nearly every day. We shopped, ate homemade banana pudding out of the dish and plotted how we were going to get her a boyfriend her desire for companionship and sex were to become a running theme. We began chatting in her bedroom, the walls and ceilings decorated by projections of fluttering butterflies.

The best way is to experiment and find what works best.
Though the survivors include Dean Stockwell and Carrie Fisher, prominently listed in the film's credits, together they cannot take up more than 10 minutes of screen time. Stockwell's scenes seem like a rejected audition tape for ''Star Trek. These scenes, which might have been shot on a sound stage in an hour, are scarcely related to the rest of the plot. Fisher might have been called on to trot out her Princess Leia role for a day or so. She is one of two time travelers sent back to to pave the way for the city's return to the past and a climactic battle between the robots and the humans. But Ms. Fisher is promptly and conveniently wounded, which gets her out of the picture for a good long time while her colleague, Tom Burlinson, the young hero of ''The Man From Snowy River'' romances a blond geologist.
